For the commercialization of tractor operated PAU Smart Seeder, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and M/s Patiala Discs Corporation, village Neelpur, Rajpura, Patiala, with an aim to curb rice residue burning. Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU and Mr Amarjeet Singh Brar, Proprietor, Patiala Discs Corporation, signed the MoA on behalf of their organizations. Dr Gursahib Singh Manes, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bio-energy), congratulated Dr Mahesh Kumar Narang, Head, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering; Dr Rajesh Goyal, Scientist and Dr Manpreet Singh, Extension Scientist, for the commercialization of the technology, which manages paddy residues by incorporation and surface mulching and thus, smartly retains the benefits of both Happy Seeder and Super Seeder in a single machine. The PAU Smart Seeder can be operated with a 45 to 50 hp tractor, and the field capacity and fuel consumption of the machine is 0.4 ha/h and 5.5 l/acre, respectively. As per Dr Narang, Dr Goyal and Dr Singh, PAU conducted large-scale demonstrations on PAU Smart Seeder on around 200 ha of areas in collaboration with its industry partners under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project initiatives. Dr Usha Nara, Plant Breeder, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, informed that PAU has signed 307 MoAs till date and 15 MoAs of this technology with different companies/firms.
