PAU SIGNS AGREEMENT FOR SMART SEEDER TECHNOLOGY
Dec1,2022 | MEENU GALHOTRA |PAU SIGNS AGREEMENT FOR SMART SEEDER TECHNOLOGY For the commercialization of tractor operated PAU Smart Seeder, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) wassigned between PAU and M/s Sukhraj Engg. Works, Faridkot, Punjab. Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU, and Mr. Narinder Singh, Proprietor, Sukhraj Engg. Works signed the MoA on behalf of their organizations. Dr Gursahib Singh Manes, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanisation and Bio-energy) congratulated Dr Mahesh Kumar Narang, Head, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering (FMPE) and Dr Rajesh Goyal, Scientist, for the commercialization of the technology. As per the details provided by Dr. Goyal, PAU Smart Seeder manages the paddy residues by incorporation and surface mulching and thus, smartly retains the benefits of both the Happy Seeder and Super Seeder in a single machine. PAU Smart Seeder places wheat seeds in a well-tilled narrow band of soil and covers the seed rows with soil, using furrow-closing rollers. This machine can be operated with a 45 to 50 hp tractor. The field capacity and fuel consumption of the machine is 0.4 ha/h and 5.5 l/acre, respectively. Dr Narang took pride in sharing that during the year 2021, PAU and its industry partners worked in collaboration to stop paddy straw burning under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project initiatives. Collectively, they also conducted large-scale demonstrations/popularization of Smart Seeder on around 200 ha area for the farmers. Dr Usha Nara, Plant Breeder, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, PAU, shared that PAU has signed 309 MoAs till date. She also added that PAU has signed 16 MoAs of the Smart Seeder Technology with different companies/firms. Dr Pushpinder Pal Singh Pannu, Additional Director of Research (NR&PHM), Dr RK Gupta, Principal Soil Chemist, Dr Kamaljeet Singh Suri, Principal Entomologist and Dr Sandeep Jain, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) were also present on the occasion.
