PAU CONDUCTS TRAINING PROGRAMMES FOR WOMEN IN DAIRY SECTOR
Dec2,2022 | MEENU GALHOTRA |The Department of Extension Education & Communication Management, PAU, Ludhiana in collaboration with the College of Dairy Science, GADVASU, held five day training for women in the dairy sector, from November 21-25, 2022, in the village Jandiali, Sahnewal block of Ludhiana. Dr Kiranjot Sidhu, Head of the department shared that the National Commission for Women, New Delhi, has funded the project, under which five days training will be conducted in five villages of Ludhiana district. Dr. Preeti Sharma initiated the training programme by sharing the content to be covered, vis a vis, value addition of milk and milk products such as preparing paneer, dahi, khoa, mozrella cheese, whey drink, flavored milk etc. In addition, she highlighted the prerequisites for starting a milk processing enterprise, which include machinery, FSSAI rules and regulations, packaging material, marketing strategies and bank schemes for taking loans. Dr. Ritu Mittal Gupta, while talking about the importance of entrepreneurship for rural women in the dairy sector, discussed the economic benefits of adding value through processing. The first day of the training also included a lecture cum demonstration on quality testing of milk and milk products, importance of milk chilling, composition of milk and its importance in daily diet, explained by GADVASU scientists, Dr. Anju B. Khatkar and Er. Gursharn Singh. Dr. Santosh Kumar Mishra highlighted the role of starter culture and hygiene in fermented dairy products. He further shed light on different fermented products like probiotic drinks, mishti dahi, yogurt etc. The training was attended by thirty rural women engaged in dairy at the household level. The participants were felicitated with a processing kit to enable them in starting an enterprise.
