Nov23,2022 | MEENU GALHOTRA |KERALA SPONSERED FIELD DAY ON TURMERIC ORGANIZED BY PAU The School of Organic Farming, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Moga organized a field day on “Improved Production Technologies of Turmeric’ at the field of Sardar Gurpreet Singh, village Panjgrain Khurd, district Moga, as a part of PAU’s Diamond Jubilee celebration activities. About 30 farmers participated in the programme, sponsored by the Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut, Kerala. Dr Tarsem Chand Mittal, Principal Extension Engineer-cum-Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, PAU, discussed processing techniques of turmeric and dwelt upon various machines for domestic and commercial scale. Dr Rajender Kumar, Principal Agronomist and Principal Investigator of the programme, explained the cultivation of turmeric and also highlighted the importance of turmeric and its increasing consumption due to several health benefits. He advised the farmers to grow turmeric to meet their domestic requirements. Dr Amandeep Singh Brar, Deputy Director, KVK, Moga, highlighted the scope of turmeric in district Moga and encouraged the farmers for diversification. Dr Ramandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor, informed about various agro-processing units to enhance the benefits. Dr Amandeep Sidhu, Agronomist, provided information on organic certification of turmeric for higher benefits. Later, Dr Harkamaldeep Singh Sekhon proposed a vote of thanks.
