The Rural Awareness Work Experience (RAWE) students of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a campaign against Congress grass eradication in different villages, namely Dolon Kalan, Pakhowal and Dhaipai of Ludhiana district. Parthenium commonly called Congress grass is a harmful weed, causing allergic respiratory problems, contact dermatitis, mutagenicity in human and livestock. Students also sensitized farmers about harmful effects of these weeds on human and animal health. Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, said that eradication of this noxious weed species is possible through community approach only. Efforts will be made to hold such campaigns in other villages as well during the coming days, he added. The campaign was organized under the guidance of Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Coordinator of RAWE students. The Sarpanch of these villages along with panchayat members appreciated the determination of PAU students.
